How FSMA Reshaped the Global Food Supply Chain

President Obama signed The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law in 2011. The aim? Protect public health by preventing food safety problems before they occur. According to the CDC, “About 48 million people in the U.S. (1 in 6) get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die each year from foodborne diseases.” FSMA rolled out several major rules, helping to build a shared responsibility among supply chain stakeholders to ensure the safety of human and animal food.

Watch & learn:

  • What FSMA is and why it became law in 2011.
  • The 7 major rules of FSMA, including FSVP and System Recognition.

FDA Import Series Part 2 with FSVP

This is the second part of the “FDA Import Series,” where we investigate one of the seven major FSMA rules, the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). We cover FSVP enforcement authority, who must comply, exemptions, hazard assessment of imported food, the seven components of a successful FSVP, and much more.

FSVP learnings on-demand

Brian Ravitch leads this on-demand webinar. His time with NOAA as a seagoing biologist and in import field operations within the FDA led him to be an authority on food inspection techniques, and a subject matter expert instrumental in the implementation of FSVP. Now, he works as a consultant, offering the best perspective on how to take the framework of FSMA, and more specifically, FSVP, to harness a sound strategy.
